Crystal Flex Thermal Binding Covers are genuine Unibind and Peleman covers designed for creating polished reports, proposals, manuals, presentations, menus, catalogs, and other client-facing documents. Each one-piece cover includes a crystal-clear front, an integrated SteelResin™ thermal binding spine, and a matte back cover.

The clear front displays your printed title page, logo, project name, or customer information, giving every document a custom appearance without printing directly on the cover. Simply insert the pages, bind the document in a compatible Unibind or Peleman machine, and allow it to cool. The result is a clean, secure presentation without punching holes, combs, coils, staples, or separate binding parts.

The original clear Unibind thermal binding cover: Crystal Flex Covers were previously sold under several names, including Unibind SteelCrystal, SteelMat, UniCover Flex, UniBinder Crystal Flex, and Peleman Flex Covers. The branding has changed over time, but this remains the genuine clear-front thermal binding cover used with Unibind and Peleman systems.

Why Choose Crystal Flex Covers?

  • Showcase your own title page through the crystal-clear front cover.
  • Create professional documents quickly without punching, stapling, or assembling loose binding components.
  • Keep the entire cover together with an easy-to-handle one-piece construction.
  • Produce a secure thermal bind using the integrated SteelResin™ spine.
  • Match thin or thick documents with multiple available spine sizes.
  • Make limited page corrections by carefully reheating the bound document when needed.

Key Features

  • Crystal-clear front cover keeps the title page, logo, project name, or customer information visible.
  • Matte back cover protects the final page and gives the document a finished appearance.
  • One-piece design keeps the front cover, spine, and back cover permanently attached for faster assembly.
  • SteelResin™ thermal binding spine securely binds pages without punching holes.
  • Multiple spine sizes accommodate documents ranging from short presentations to large manuals.
  • Letter-size format is designed for standard 8-1/2" x 11" pages.
  • Compatible with Unibind and Peleman thermal binding systems.

Crystal Flex Spine Size & Sheet Capacity

Choose the spine size according to the total document thickness, not sheet count alone. Standard 20 lb. copy paper allows a higher sheet capacity, while thicker 32 lb. presentation paper such as vPaper requires more spine space.

Spine Size 20 lb. Paper 32 lb. vPaper Box Qty.
03 mm / 1/8" 20 sheets 15 sheets 110 covers
05 mm / 3/16" 40 sheets 30 sheets 96 covers
07 mm / 5/16" 60 sheets 40 sheets 88 covers
09 mm / 3/8" 80 sheets 65 sheets 72 covers
12 mm / 1/2" 100 sheets 80 sheets 66 covers
15 mm / 5/8" 120 sheets 90 sheets 60 covers
18 mm / 3/4" 160 sheets 110 sheets 44 covers
24 mm / 1" 220 sheets 145 sheets 48 covers
36 mm / 1-1/2" 340 sheets 230 sheets 24 covers

Sheet capacities are approximate. Tabs, inserts, dividers, laminated pages, folded sheets, photos, and specialty paper increase the total document thickness. When a document is close to the listed capacity, choose the next larger spine size.

How to Use Crystal Flex Covers

  1. Count the sheets and account for any tabs, inserts, dividers, or specialty paper.
  2. Select the appropriate Crystal Flex spine size using the capacity chart.
  3. Arrange the pages neatly with the printed title page facing the clear front cover.
  4. Insert the entire document evenly into the SteelResin™ spine.
  5. Place the document in a compatible Unibind thermal binding machine.
  6. Complete the heating cycle and allow the document to cool fully before opening or handling it.

Best Uses

Crystal Flex Covers are an excellent choice for client proposals, annual reports, financial presentations, training manuals, policy books, catalogs, menus, real estate packets, legal documents, school projects, portfolios, event books, engineering reports, and other short-run documents where the printed title page should remain visible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Crystal Flex Covers all one piece?
Yes. The crystal-clear front cover, SteelResin™ thermal binding spine, and matte back cover are permanently attached as one complete cover.

Are Crystal Flex Covers the same as SteelCrystal Covers?
Crystal Flex Covers are the current version of the clear thermal binding covers many customers previously knew as Unibind SteelCrystal. Related names used over the years have included SteelMat, UniCover Flex, UniBinder Crystal Flex, Peleman Crystal Flex, and Peleman Flex Covers.

How do I choose the correct cover size?
Count the sheets, note the paper weight, and include the thickness of tabs, inserts, dividers, folded pages, laminated sheets, and specialty stock. Choose the next larger spine when your document is near the maximum listed capacity.

Can I use vPaper with Crystal Flex Covers?
Yes. Because 32 lb. vPaper is thicker than standard 20 lb. copy paper, use the vPaper capacity column when selecting the cover size.

Can I use Crystal Flex Covers with older Unibind machines?
In many cases, yes. These covers are designed for compatible Unibind and Peleman thermal binding systems. Contact us with your machine model when you need help confirming compatibility.

Are Crystal Flex Covers reusable?
They are editable, but they are not intended to be reused for an entirely different document. Limited page additions or replacements may be possible by carefully reheating the same bound presentation.

Do I need to punch holes in the pages?
No. Crystal Flex Covers use thermal binding, so the pages are inserted directly into the spine without punching, combs, coils, or binding posts.
