How to use UniCover Flex
Using the UniCover Flex thermal binding cover is simple. First, choose your desired spine capacity (spine size). Place the appropriate number of papers inside your cover. Tamp the cover spine side down on a hard surface. This will jog all the pages to the bottom, and nest them on top of the resin. Next, place the cover onto the Unibind heating element. The system will automatically detect the stell spine and the binding process will begin. When the machine light turns green, place the bound document in the crimping element (if applicable). Hold the document in place while the UniBind machine crimps the document's spine. For smaller documents, or documents that do not require crimping, move to the final step, which is cooling. Cooling allows the resin to set and permanently binds the documents. After 90 seconds of cooling, your document is bound. The final step is to tear away the covers anti-static protection sheet (OK Paper).
UniCover Flex F.A.Q.
Q: Can I use any kind of paper in my Unibind system? A: Yes, the Unibind binding resin allows you to bind every type of office and photo paper. The sheet capacity of Unibind binding covers is based upon 20lb paper (80GSM). The use of heavier paper will call for a larger spine sized to be used and may require a second heating application to safely secure all the paper in the resin. For completely lay-flat options, try new Vpaper.
Q: Why choose Unibind? A: Unibind is a high-quality, user-friendly binding product that has a long-lasting performance. Unibind gives you flexible solutions for in-house binding, including a wide choice of presentation covers for your specific objectives. This do-it-yourself approach to perfect bound documents proves to be very cost-efficient.
Q: Can I order customized Unibind covers from you? A: Yes, you may place customized orders by email, phone, or fax. To repeat a custom order, please have a copy of your design available, with a quantity and cover capacity in mind. You can email your order to info@filing.com, by calling us at 1-800-373-9133, or by faxing us at 651-481-8525. New custom orders will require a proofing process before production.
Q: How do I make sure that all of the pages are going to be secure in the cover? A: First, make sure you choose the proper size Unibind cover. Over-stuffing a cover will likely cause pages to fall out. A Unibind spine measurer is a handy tool to help ensure the correct cover size is selected for your document. Second, make sure to jog the papers to align the sheets carefully and then load the set of pages into the Unibind cover. Tapping the documents ensures that the sheets will make good contact with the adhesive resin.
Q: Where is the On/Off switch on the machine? A: For the 8.2 and 8.1 machines, the switch is located on the backside, near the bottom. For the rest of the binding systems, there is no on/off button. Simply placing the spine side down on the heating element will automatically start the binding process.
Q: Can I edit the document once it has been bound? A: Yes, you can edit documents after you have bound them. Place the bound cover on the heating element and wait for the green light indication. Pickup the document, and again, set it on the heating element. This will keep the molten resin in a liquid state and give you time to add or edit. To remove a sheet of paper, slide the document left or right and avoid pulling up so the resin does not stick to the remaining pages. Add a new sheet in the desired location and jog/tap the document for proper positioning.
Q: Can I reuse Unibind covers? A: Removing all pages will likely remove all binding resin, leaving the cover without proper adhesive. We do not recommend reusing Unibind covers.
Q: What is the extra sheet for in the latest covers? A: The anti-static sheet, also called "OK Paper" ss attached at the base of the clear side of your Unibind cover, is designed to reduce binding errors. Customer feedback was showing that pages were often sticking to the clear side of the binding cover when placing pages inside the cover. In some instances, all the pages would not touch the resin and therefore the book would fall apart. The anti-static sheet eliminates the possibility of misbinding. To use, bind your documents in the traditional Unibind process. When cooled, remove the anti-static sheet by tearing at the perforated edge. Removing the OK paper should be the final step in your binding process.
Q: Can you send me a Unibind Price List? A: Unibind Price List can be obtained by contacting us directly.
